Year 6 were very lucky to receive a visit from the one and only John Lennon! Well, an actor pretending to be John Lennon really, but he was very good.
He came to tell the children all about John Lennon's life and how influential the Beatles have been on the pop culture. The children are currently researching about The Beatles as part of our history topic; The 1960's.
All children had a great time finding out information, singing song and having a dance!

Discovery Week at Manford
The week of the 22nd of March was Discovery week at Manford.
We decided to take this opportunity to allow the children to revise their knowledge of Science and develop their thinking and team working skills. We gave the children a scenario; Imagine you are travelling on an aeroplane when suddenly, your plane crashes. You try to swim to safety and find yourself stranded on a desert island.
The children needed to work together to solve a variety of problems while staying on the island.
The problems included: Building a bridge to cross the raging waters, Building a tall structure to pick the fruit from the trees, Make a boat strong enough to carry one person and nice water pots.
The children had great fun and have even asked if they can do it again!

Art Workshop with Sharon Drew
On Monday, 1st March and Wednesday, 3rd of March, Year 6 were very fortunate to work with the Artist Sharon Drew and her husband Mark on a piece of sculpture that would become a permenant fixture in the school.
The topic of the sculpture linked in with the History topic covered in Year 6: World War II. We decided to focus on the theme of Evacuation. As you can see, Sharon and Mark had began preparing the main sculptures beforehand as we only had two days with them. The children helped add facial features, clothes and evacuation tags to the sculptures.
They also made their own mask from clay and mod-roc. The children have thoroughly enjoyed working with Sharon and Mark and are very excited about seeing the final product.... Watch this space!
