The Pied Piper

During the week of July 11th, 2011, Years 5 and 6 put on a fantastic production of The Pied Piper.

They danced and sang their way through three performances.

All teachers involved were very proud of all children involved!

Well done!

The Apprentice comes to Manford!

After the hard work of the SATS, Year 6 had a little rest from Numeracy as they know it and instead took on a big Challenge.... The Apprentice Challenge!

The children had to work in small groups and set up and run their own business on Inflatable Day. Once they had choosen their group and a name for their company, they then set about appointing a Team Leader, Accountant, Purchaser, Advertiser and Designer.

Next, they thought of what type of stall they would like to run on the day. The range of stalls included: Decorate a biscuit, Nail painting and make up, Trick or Treat, Lucky Lolly, Beat the Goalie, Splash the Teacher, Games Stall, Treasure Hunt, Teacher Target and Lucky Dip.

All children put a huge amount of effort in to the week leading up to Inflatable Day and on the day itself.

The money that they raised from the day will help sponsor a young girl from Kenya.

Miss Simmonds, Mr Bowsher and Miss Littler would like to say a great, big thank you to all the children that took part.

Friday, July 1st was Inflatable Day! As you can see, Year 6 had a great time on all the inflatables, Miss Simmonds and Mr Bowsher even had a go at the Gladiator one! Sadly Miss Simmonds lost after being pushed off by Mr Bowsher twice!

1960's Day

In June, Year 6 held a 1960's themed writing day.

The children and teachers arrived at school looking fantastic in 1960's style clothes.

A busy day was planned for the children. The activities were: Song writing, John Lennon drama, 1960's disco and 1960's Word art.

For the song writing activity, they listened to the song 'Help!' by The Beatles. They discussed the lyrics and told a partner what they might need help with. They then went and wrote their own version of the song.

The children had a great time listening to John Lennon and hearing all about his life, the influence he and The Beatles had on the youth and popular culture of the 1960's and dancing to a few of the earlier Beatles songs!

Here are a few pictures from the day to show how much they enjoyed the day.
