Manford's Arts week was based around the theme of Africa. Year 6 decided to create their own African jewellery out of clay.
The first thing we did was to research the topic and look at the variety of different types of jewellery that Africans made and wore. The children were amazed at how different and unusual the jewellery was to what we wear and how colourful everything was.
Once we researched the different styles of jewellery, the children had to design four pieces of jewellery that they would like to create and finally choose their favourite.
The next step was to create the beads out of clay, ensuring that they have placed a hole in the clay in order to thread them onto lace (some children forgot to do this and had to start again!). The clay was left to dry overnight and then the next day, they were ready to paint.
All the children worked really hard and produced some fantastic pieces of work, as you can see below!
