Year 6 Leavers BBQ

As a special goodbye to the year 6's, a leavers BBQ was held for them on Thursday, 17th July.
Unfortunately, the weather was not very nice, but that didn't stop us!
The BBQ was moved to a marquee behind the junior hall and all activities were held inside. The children took part in games, karaoke and a disco!
Our trustworthy caretaker Luke, Ann and Cheryl took care of the food and cooked some delicious burgers and hot dogs for everyone!

The children were very well behaved and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Goodbye and Good Luck to you all!

1960's Day

Year 6 enjoy 1960's Day

Year 6 disco

Year 6 travelled back in time today and relived the 1960's. Children enjoyed learning about the events of the 60's and were amazed by the events that occurred during one decade. All children dressed up to show the fashions of the decade. We had outfits from the early 60's (mini skirts) and late 60's (Hippies). It was clearly a decade of great music and fashion.
Throughout the day children listened to 1960's music, participated in a disco, where all manged the twist dance off. Children also created Andy Warhol style pictures and 1960's montages.

Creating our montages.

Cool dancing!

The whole day was great fun!!

Final Performances!!

On the week beginning 14th July Years 5 and 6 performed their end of year production to the school and parents. After a rocky start the children performed fantastically in all 3 performances. They sang well and the acting was just as good. There were some fantastic solo performances that didn't leave a dry eye in the house. As you can imagine the usual teachers watching couldn't hold it together and the tears came flooding out, so that proves how successful the performances were. I know there were also a lot of parents who watched who commented how well the children had done and again there were lots of tears shed.

Not only did the children perform brilliantly, but also all the teachers and LSAs worked extremely hard, without these people the performances just couldn't go ahead, so thank you.

The sale of refreshments and photos raised a good amount of money for the school, which will be put together with the money raised by the year 6 at the summer fete to buy some equipment for the playground and a plaque will be placed in their memory.
Thank you to all who came and supported the children and school.

Below are the photos of the production!!!

Enjoy.......

Good Luck to the year 6 as they move to their next schools!!

Year 6 Literacy

Year 6/7 Transition unit - Flatlife

After the hard work of the SAT's, we have been enjoying taking part in a transition unit that will be linked to our first couple of weeks of high school when we start in September.

In class we have been watching a short film called 'Flatlife'. It is an animated film about 4 characters that live next door to each other in a block of flats. There are lots of different situations that arise between the neighbours.... even a panda flying into the window!
It is a very funny film!

During class, we have been taking part in a lot of activities related to the unit, such as; Drama, letter writing (informal and formal), playscripts, making a new soundtrack, animation, designing a new flat and lots more!

During our drama session, we pretended to be the characters and held a residents' meeting to get to know each other.

It was great fun! Look for yourselves.....

Neha, Heidi, Tommy and Shaun's fantastic acting!

Amy and Amie in character!
We have had such a great time in the last couple of weeks during our Literacy lessons, we can't wait for more!

Gym Session

On Tuesday afternoon Y6 enjoyed an afternoon of gym activities. The activities include thinking about balancing on points and patches, how to move around, under, through and over the apparatus, how to twist and roll and finally we had to create a sequence of balances on different parts of our bodies and link these with a roll or a twist.

The children really enjoyed the session, it was fun and they learnt a lot, even though there was a lot of maths vocabulary involved!

Take a look at us in action and watch some of us on the go......

Year 6 Dance

Year 6 Learn the 'Quick Step'
Year 6 have just started a new History/PE topic all about dance. The children are involved every week in learning different dances through the decades. This weeks gruelling challenge was to attempt steps from the Quick Step! The lesson involved the whole of Year 6 and was a great work out as well as a lot of fun. We were all exhausted afterwards, especially the teachers.
Before beginning any form of exercise we need to warm up. The children enjoyed warming up to the favourite track of 'Cha Cha Slide'.

This is so much fun!!

Just watch the moves!!

Check out the concentration....

We were exhausted!

After all the exercise we were absolutely exhausted, but can't wait to have a go next week.

London Firebrigade

Visit form the Fireman
Today Year 6 and the rest of KS2 had a really worthwhile visit from the London Firebrigade. The children listened to a talk on how to keep safe in the home and what to do if there is a fire.

Listening intently to the advice
